The first meeting of the Stable Isotopes in Zooarchaeology Working Group took place here at UGA March 3-5, 2016, with the theme “Data Management and New Directions”. The majority of the 35 participants were from the US and Canada, but we also had colleagues joining us from Europe and Australia. Talks ranged from case studies on the applications of stable isotopes as indicators of migration, climate, and landscape, to methodology -including sclerochronology and sampling - to considering some of the issues and challenges in applying stable isotope analysis to zooarchaeological questions. A morning workshop focused on the data structure and functioning of the Neotoma Paleoecology Database and the new stable isotope data repository structure within it. The meeting also featured tours of the UGA Archaeology Lab, the Center for Applied Isotope Studies, and the Georgia Museum of Natural History collections, with an evening reception held in the museum.
